OVERVIEW

If you’re dreaming of a honeymoon that’s a little different from the normal beach holiday, then Finland definitely a destination you should visit! Finland is a country of vast forests and extensive lakes, only interrupted by small towns that is perfect for either a summer or winter honeymoon.

Finnish Lapland is a top destination for whole host winter activities, from snowmobiling and snowshoeing to ice fishing, husky safaris and of course, not forgetting hunting down the Northern Lights! Hotels in this region offer accommodations sure to make your honeymoon an unforgettable and once in a life time experience, from the Arctic Treehouse Hotel which combines all the cosiness of a winter cabin with the added benefit of floor to ceiling windows to spot the lights, to full glass igloos at the Santa’s hotel Aurora you’ll be spoilt for choice!

Finland in the summer also offers unique experiences. It’s one of the few places outside of America that you can go bear watching and the warmer months are also ideal for a city break to Helsinki or a road trip to see Finnish Lakes and vast evergreen forests.

When is the best time to visit Finland?

The time of year you should visit Finland is largely dictated by what you want to do.

A winter in Lapland allows for all snow based activities and chances to spot the Northern Lights. Due to their unpredictability, it’s difficult to say exactly when to travel to spot them and most travellers focus their efforts between late December and April when the nights are at their darkest and longest. In the summer in the far north, the sun doesn’t set for ten weeks in summer, while in winter it stays below the horizon for almost eight weeks. So the summer is perfect for wildlife spotting, long walks and admiring the beautiful scenery.
