Lucy & Simon’s Magical Mexican Honeymoon
Lucy and Simon spent two weeks at the 5* all inclusive, adult only Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun in Mexico for their dream honeymoon. We caught up with them to see what they thought of the hotel and if they would consider returning back to Mexico. Read on to find out all about their wonderful experience…
‘Before we boarded our flight we sat in the Airport lounge and enjoyed a few drinks which was lovely. We flew with Virgin Atlantic airlines from London Gatwick, the flight was really good. It provided a great service, great food and drinks were provided at regular intervals too. ‘
‘On arrival we had a bottle of sparking wine waiting for us in our room which I thought was a very nice touch to our honeymoon. Our room in Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun was spectacular. We stayed in an intimate looking Junior Suite Tropical view room which was cleaned daily to a great standard and a turn down service was provided. It was a very spacious and comfortable standard room with no sea view but a balcony overlooking the surrounding tropical vegetation and a luxurious bath area with hydrotub for two. We did not mind not having a sea view, as we went in October and it was dark by 7pm so we rarely sat on the spacious balcony. There is a smart tablet in the room to tell you what’s going on in the resort day to day, which we thought was a great idea. ‘
‘We routinely went for breakfast, then to the pool or beach (unless doing activities) and returned to the room to go to dinner in the evening. There is a concierge in each block, they are all too happy to help you. The live music in the lounge was good, shame it didn’t last longer, cocktails were awesome at all the bars. There is a spa at the hotel but we did not use it as it costs extra but we were happy using the main pool areas. The pools are lovely not too cold, there are iguanas and other wildlife around the area which was pretty cool and the sea was warm. You are served drinks at your sun bed on the beach and by the pool. The pool or sea never seemed busy and their are plenty of sun beds to go round.’
‘There are plenty of activities to keep you busy but they do not take over the resort if you just want to relax. We took part in CrossFit, kayaking, various small games around the resort. In the evenings, we watched the entertainment which varies but is quite good and then had drinks at the sugar reef bar.’
‘All the dining options within the resort are very good. Out of the other restaurants we preferred Himitsu, a Pan Asian restaurant were they do live show cooking but we actually preferred the normal sit down menu. We did not get bored of the food and there is plenty of choice. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic too. We used room service on our first night having arrived late from our day trip and this was also good.’
‘In Mexico, we did plenty of sightseeing including visiting the iconic Tulum, which I felt was lovely. After this we took a trip to a snorkelling bay and a Cenote, which was stunning. The snorkelling and Cenotes were great and the highlight of the day. The overall trip was magical, however, I had to pay extra for my GoPro but normal phones are fine to use. The only issue with these trips are the several pick ups/drop offs from the other hotels that adds 2 hours to the trip when it could take you 20 minutes to travel on your own. I also went diving using Aquaworld and visited Cozumel which was amazing diving in to and would recommend. You can also go diving from the hotel you stay in which was far more convenient and I would have done more here if I had realised just how easy it was from the beach.’
‘Overall, the entire honeymoon was amazing can’t fault any of it from the weather, beach, food to the room and service. The Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun in Mexico was a lovely resort, everything was of exceptional quality and service. The staff were fantastic and very friendly, they met our every needs and wants whilst we stayed there on our honeymoon. The room we stayed in which was the Junior Suite Tropical View was fabulous and the bed was so comfortable. The views including the pool and beach were amazing too.’
How was the Honeymoon Dreams service?
Honeymoon Dreams’ service was excellent, very polite and helpful. I would recommend them very much.
What advice would you give to couples looking to have their honeymoon at Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun?
I would recommend taking mosquito spray, as I got bitten a fair bit. Also, check which restaurants are open as they close on different days. The weather in October, although hurricane season, was fantastic. You will not be disappointed with this amazing resort.
