fires.
  • The Glass Igloo

Perfect for two, these thermal glass igloos are available during the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) season- late August – Late April. The igloo is snug, cosy and very romantic and as well as a comfortable double bed under the glass roof, there is a private toilet. Sauna and showers are situated in an adjoining building.
  • The Kelo glass igloo

These are a new and contemporary style of log cabin made from kelo pine with a large glass window in the roof right over the bed – sheer romance! These igloos also have an igloo part that has a second double bed. These igloos are very comfortable with a lovely log fireplace, shower and sauna as well as a kitchenette. These are wonderful hideaways that really don’t need televisions!
  • Log Cabins

These kelo pine cabins are rugged in style to suit their surroundings! They offer comfortable accommodation and are perfect for enjoying the Northern Lights and when Finland becomes Land of the Midnight Sun.
  • Real Snow Igloos

What an unforgettable experience sleeping in a real igloo! It may be incredible cold outside, but believe it or not, even if the thermometer is down to -24ºC outside, the inside temperature in the igloo remains a constant -3 - -6ºC . Nothing beats snuggling together in a down sleeping bag!
  • Queen Suites

Perfect for lovebirds, this 60m² log chalet has a beautiful four poster bed, and bathroom with bath tub and sauna. Outside on the terrace there is a Jacuzzi. What better way to experience traditional life in Lapland?
  • Wedding Chamber

Earth Lodges (kammi) were commonly used in Finland because their turf roofs used to conceal their existence. What better place for honeymooners? Inside the kammi, the walls are lined with slender tree trunks and the ceiling is vaulted. As well as a comfortable bed with romantic drapes, there is a bath tub and sauna.
  • Traditional House

Situated close to Kakslautten river, this attractive house, with its colourful history, is nearly 100 years old and is furnished in the authentic Lapland style. There is a comfortable bed, a living room with log fire, rocking chair and colourful rugs and a sauna.
  • Golddigger Chalets

Well we can’t promise that you will find any gold, but these chalets are delightful as they are secluded and comfortable with an attractive double bed and sauna. Outside, the perfect transport awaits you – a kick sled of course.

Facilities

The accommodation is divided into east and west villages, with the east being smaller with fewer facilities but greater privacy which is ideal for honeymooners, but with everything available within a comfortable distance.

Importantly, Kakslauttanen has been welcoming wedding couples for years and as well as offering some unique and very romantic accommodation, it offers some very unusual winter wedding locations too as it has a log chapel and also a snow chapel hewn out of ice and snow.
There is the chance to hire clothing all year through and in the winter, snow shoes, sleds and skis too – as well as ski school for those who need it.
The largest smoke sauna in the world is located here and for those who want to try ice swimming, the helpful staff will cut a hole in the ice on the river for you.

This is really a winter playground and there is so much to do. There are husky and reindeer safaris and an exhilarating night reindeer sleigh ride. There is the chance to go snowmobiling and cross country skis can be rented.

During the summer months, there is plenty to do too with outside barbecue areas, horse riding, cycling and fishing.

Restaurants

Depending on which accommodation you book, there are several different restaurants – including the Aurora Restaurant with its glass igloo bar. All the restaurants specialise in Lappish cuisine. There is a third restaurant called Savusauna which is located at the smoke sauna.

Lappish cuisine (Sami cuisine) is based on four main ingredients; fish, game, reindeer and berries – especially cloud berries. Dishes taste good and are accentuated by the use of salt rather than spices and sauces to complement meat dishes are made from combinations of different berries.
